Transparency and Fees
General
Cassian Chambers can be instructed to assist Solicitors who practise within the Jurisdiction of England and Wales, in-house legal departments, and in some cases which are dependent and appropriate, from non-lawyers under the ‘Licensed Access’ Scheme. Further information about the Licensed Access scheme can be found via The Bar Standards Board’s Licensed Access Recognition Regulations.
Areas of Practice
Cassian Chambers primarily provides legal services within Chancery Law, with a particular focus on Landlord and Tenant matters.
Public Access
Cassian Chambers’ Islam Chowdhary is authorised to accept instructions directly from lay clients without the need of a Solicitor having already been instructed. This is known as the ‘Public Access’ or ‘Direct Access’ Scheme. Further information about the Public Access Scheme can be found via The Bar Standards Board’s Public Access Guidance for Lay Clients.
Our Approach to Fees
Cassian Chambers is always transparent, open, and approachable on the issue of fees. This includes providing information to clients on the level of fees in addition to quotations which can be provided on request. Our fees are dependent on the individual case presented to us and will consider a variety of factors such as the complexities of matters at hand, the time it may take to complete the work, and the level of work required. This is of course based on the information and description of each case that is provided to us. The more information we have concerning a particular case, the easier it is to estimate our likely fees. That said, our approach to fees is always transparent and flexible. Generally speaking, however, for Court hearings, we will typically agree a fixed-fee in advance of any work carried out. For matters such as Conferences and Drafting, we will typically charge an hourly rate for such work.
Cassian Chambers fully appreciates that not all cases are the same and the dynamics of any case may change very quickly. If there are such changes such as additional information being provided to us, Court hearings lasting a longer time, or simply that the instructions given to us are changed, we will always communicate with clients around any increases in fees. Similarly, if circumstances are changed such that it transpires that less work is required to be done following instructions, clients will be contacted with a view of a refund being provided for work which has not been carried out.
VAT
Cassian Chambers does not charge VAT.
Timescales
In terms of turnaround times and general timescales, a variety of factors will be taken into consideration. Such factors may be dependent on the complexity of the case, the paperwork which needs to be reviewed, availability, and changing instructions. At Cassian Chambers, we ensure that timescales are adhered to in a strict manner. If, however, it appears that there may be a delay in meeting a particular deadline, this will be fully explained to clients.
